June 27, 2022HERO OFFICER TO START NEW K9 UNIT AT SOUTH LONDONDERRY POLICE DEPARTMENT; DONATIONS NEEDED
The South Londonderry Township Police Department has announced that they have begun the process of implementing a K-9 program. Patrolman Nick Ague will be heading up the program as the Handler. The recent attention garnered from Patrolman Ague’s involvement in helping an injured dog resulted in an overwhelming response and support for a K-9 program in the community.
It is South Londonderry’s intention that the K-9 would be primarily used to benefit their Township, but additionally that Patrolman Ague and his dog would be made available to assist nearby Municipalities upon request.
The South Londonderry Township Police Department is now reaching out for help to get the K-9 program off of the ground. They estimate the total minimum cost for the initial implementation is $18,000.00, with total outfitting being approximately $25,000.00.

The costs going primarily to obtaining and training a K-9 and the remainder for K-9 equipment and K-9 vehicle equipment.
Project Paws Alive, a 501c non-profit that provides K-9 equipment, has been selected to help provide $10,000 worth of equipment to outfit the K9 unit and put in place all necessary items to enable the K9 unit to get started right away. Amongst the items needed are; a K9 vehicle transport insert (kennel) with door panes, window guards and interior light, a K9 vehicle hot n’ pop pro system with the No K9 Left Behind technology, a K9 bullet & stab-proof vest, a K9 cooling vest, a K9 Trauma First Aid kit, a Police K9 harness and leash.
Capture“We heard the news as soon as it happened,” said Cheryl Allen, President of Project Paws Alive. “We recently equipped many K9 agencies local to South Londonderry so we received calls as soon as Nick’s amazing act starting going viral. When they announced Nick would be starting up a brand new K9 unit we knew we wanted to reach out and assist. It’s what we do, and we want to help make this happen for Nick as quickly as possible. Things happen for a reason and he’s already shown that he’s simply meant to be a K9 handler. We’re very excited to be assisting the South Londonderry Police Dept. and honored to be able to help Nick out.”
1204691512Donations have already been made to the South Londonderry Police to acquire a new K9 and train both the new K9 and handler. Project Paws Alive has been tasked with fund-raising for the equipment. Without the proper equipment the K9 unit can’t move forward.
